Sgt. Colby L. Richmond, 28, of Providence, N.C., died Aug. 25 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle using an improvised explosive device. The soldiers were assigned to the 546th Transportation Company, 82nd Sustainment Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C. He was the son of Mrs. Cynthia Jeffries Richmond and the late Curtis Richmond. He united in marriage with Shandra Mitchell in 2005, to this union a son was born, Kylei M. Richmond. His survivors are wife, Mrs. Shandra M. Richmond; son, Kylei Markel Richmond; mother, Mrs. Cynthia Jeffries Richmond; mother-in-law, Mrs. Vernell Murray; father-in-law, Bernard Mitchell; and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service for Sgt. Richmond was held at the Caswell County Civic Center, 536 Main St., Yanceyville, NC. Interment followed in the, God's Blessing Center Cemetery with full military rites.
