Soloman was the son of William Wood and Lydia Ballentine. He married Elizabeth Eason 29 Dec 1777 in Wake Co. NC. They had the following children:
1. Eason Wood b 1778
2. Nancy Wood Brazael Allen b 1781
3. William G. Wood b 1783
4. Mary Polly Wood Mitchell b 1785
5. Elizabeth Wood Mitchell b 1788
6. Green Wood b 1792
7. Mark Red Wood b 1794
8. John White Wood b 1796
The Wood family history tells of Soloman Wood building a fort on his plantation, at his own expense. It was to be used by his family and his neighbors. It was built near a spring, and was located on the road between Wadley and Bartow, Ga., about a mile east of Bartow. It is said that he had a very large bell, which he used to warn all the neighbors whenever there was a threat of an Indian attack. The fort is described as having been made of logs and handmade brick.
It is said that he fell from a wagon during a trip to Augusta or Savannah to exchange produce for plantation supplies, broke his leg, which caused blood poison, and which caused his death. He is believed to be buried on the high knoll near the old home site possibly near his son, Solomon.
