Sebert C Shelton was an early pioneer to California. He migrated to IL and joined the Mormon Church, married Elizabeth SPEARS who died and then he married Elizabeth Trains Mayfield, a widow. He joined the Mormon Battalion in Council Bluffs, Pott. Co, IA and began the march overland to California on 16 Jul 1846. He was sent to Pueblo, CO with a group of women and children to winter as the journey was becoming too difficult for them. He arrived in Salt Lake Valley on 29 Jul 1847. His second wife Elizabeth Trains Mayfield and several of the children accompanied them. Children: Caroline Shelton, Mariah Shelton, Thomas Shelton, Mary E Shelton, Abram Cooper Shelton, and step-children Benjamin F Mayfield, Andrew Jackson Mayfield, John Mayfield, and Sarah Mayfield. He came to CA in 1851 and settled in Stony Point, Sonoma Co, CA, where he died at age 64 years.
