U.S. Congressman. Self educated, he became the sole proprietor of the Oneonta Herald, weekly newspaper (1890-1912) and was a pioneer in the manufacture recording industry. In 1907, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixtieth and to the five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1909). While in office, he was appointed by President Taft as special commissioner to the First Centenary of Mexico at Mexico City, with the rank of Minister. After leaving Congress, he was president and director of the White Plains Development Company and resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 70.
