When Donna was 5 the family relocated to Salina, KS where she spent most of her childhood years. After graduating from high school, she married her sweetheart Arnold F. Ward who had just returned from military service. The young couple started a family by giving birth to Martin C. Ward in 1949. Then in 1951, the family relocated to Kansas City, KS for employment opportunities. There the couple had twin girls Linda S. Ward and Karen L. Ward. She was active in her church for over 60 years, played bridge with several groups, and was a Girl Scout troop leader during her daughters' scouting years. She enjoyed her work as a bookkeeper at the Metcalf State Bank for over 20 years.
Donna was a big sports fan, she loved watching baseball and football. As the family expanded with grandchildren so did Donna's hobbies. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, playing cards, reading, texting, and embroidery. She was always eager to attend her grandchildren's sporting events. She enjoyed making homemade ice cream, always had mac and cheese on hand, and cookies in the cookie jar. She had a great love for the Lord, was compassionate to all, was tough when she needed to be, and was the strength the whole family looked to. Her day started with a cup of coffee and an English muffin with peanut butter and her day ended with reciting Psalms 23.
She is preceded in death by her husband Arnold, son Marty and daughter-in-law Debbie, and grandson Jeremy. She is survived by her daughters Karen (John) and Linda (Mike), her grandchildren, Melissa, Jolynn, Ashleigh, Ryan, and Adam, and her great-grandchildren Zakaria, Anissa, Brayden, Logan, Reese, Wade, and one due in May. Her celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm at Gezer Park, 13251 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
