US Congressman. Moving to New York City, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1825 and commenced to practice law in Oswego, New York. He was trustee of the village of Oswego, (1828, 36, 45), prosecuting attorney of Oswego County, (1829-33), treasurer of the village of Oswego, (1832-34, 37) and judge of the court of common pleas 1833-41). In 1839, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses, 1843. After his political career, he was Postmaster of Oswego, New York, (1845-49), was president of the excise board commission, (1870-73) and engaged in agricultural pursuits, until his death at age 74.
