Jewel Patterson Autrey, 86, died Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center-Baldwyn Nursing Facility after an extended illness. She was born in Limestone Co., Ala., on March 20, 1925, to Eldridge Patterson and Cora Lee Wilbanks Patterson. She and her late husband, Johnnie Autrey, lived much of their life in the Zion/Waukegan, Ill., area where she was employed as a civil servant in the housekeeping department of the Great Lakes Veterans Administration Facility. She had lived the last few years at Countrywood Plantation in Mantachie. A Baptist, she loved playing bingo, flower gardening, attending flee markets and her grands whom affectionately knew her as MamMaw.

A prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. James Lawson officiating. Private burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery near Mooreville. Holland Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Autrey of Mantachie; her granddaughter, Sherry Watkins (Jeff); her great-grandson, Corey Grooms; a great-great-grandson, Gavin Grooms, all of Mooreville; a brother, J.P. "Uncle Jay" Patterson of Hartselle, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her loved and devotion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnnie Melvin Autrey who died Jan. 17, 2007; her only son, Johnnie Lyle Autrey who died Feb. 20, 2006; and two siblings, Poca "Pokie" Breeding and Junior Patterson.
