MORRISVILLE / HYDE PARK - Raymond Paul Hamel, 85, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville.

He was born in Elmore, Dec. 10, 1925, the son of George and Alma (Fontaine) Hamel.

Ray served in the US Navy during WWII and was a charter and lifetime member of the VFW Post #9653 in Morrisville. He was a former fire chief of the Morrisville Fire Dept. where he had served as a member for 28 years. He was employed as a carpenter and also worked for the Morrisville Water and Light Department. Raymond enjoyed carving ducks and hunting ducks as well as deer and planting Christmas trees with Arlo Sterner. He also played town team baseball and later coached kids baseball.

He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Marshall Hamel; a sister, Jean Allen; and brothers, George, Roland, Armand and Edward Hamel.

He leaves his wife, Mary, of Hyde Park; his children, Edward Hamel and wife, Pat, of Morrisville, Mark Hamel and wife, Cindy, of Richmond, Anne Earl and husband, Warren, of Eden Mills, James Hamel and wife, Cindy, of Richmond, Kathy Buck and husband, John, of Vegreville, Alberta, Patrice Heinrichs and husband, Mark, of Barton and John Hamel and his wife, Amy, of Lyndonville; stepchildren, Larry Buker and partner, Linda, of Essex, Randy Buker and wife, Martha, of Wolcott and Wendy Buker of Methuen, Mass.; a brother, Gerard Hamel of Morrisville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Morrisville.

Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Morrisville.

The White-Fiess Funeral Home of Morrisville is assisting the family with arrangements.
