SOUTH OGDEN – Emmy Lou Burnham, our dearly loved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away August 29, 2011. As much as we will miss her, we know her pain has ended and she will be with her loved ones.

She was born July 3, 1926, to Harry and Emma Kent, in Ardmore, OK, the youngest of five children. Her father died when she was only 18 months old and they relocated to Ogden, Utah to be closer to family. She graduated from Weber High School in 1944 and worked at Hill Air Force Base as an electrician during World War II. She married Jack Barnes in 1946 and they had seven children; her pride and joy. They later divorced and she married Robert Byron Burnham in 1969 and they spent the next 38 years enjoying life.

Emmy Lou worked for the post office until she retired in 1980. She started as a clerk sorting mail, while going to school nights, and worked her way up to the Chief of Human Resource Management and later the Head of Entitlements for Northern Utah. When her and Bob were not traveling or at their cabin in Island Park, ID she was making beautiful quilts many of which she donated to numerous charities. She was a very giving person as shown by her many years of support to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Soroptimist International of Ogden. She also volunteered during the Olympics at the Ogden Ice Sheet.

Emmy Lou is survived by her children; Diana (John) Adrian of Layton; Jeannie (Gene) Hathenbruck of Layton; Sandy (Norman) Nield of Ogden; Deb Barnes of South Ogden; Connie (Joe) Piccolo of North Ogden; two step-sons Byron (Shirley) Burnham of Logan; and Dean (Debra) Burnham of Star Valley, WY; three brothers, Ted Kent of Corvallis, OR; Ned (Valerie) Kent of Yakama, WA; and Harry (Janice) Kent of Ogden; one sister Esther Kent of La Canada, CA; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
