William "Bill" Ira Aynes of Atlanta died February 17, 2006 after a long illness battling emphysema.

He was born "a depression baby" on February 26, 1929 in Pensacola, FL. The youngest and only boy of four children, Mr. Aynes graduated Pensacola High School in 1946. After graduation, he worked on the Extra Board for the St. Louis - San Francisco Railway as a station agent and claims agent for over 10 years while attending and graduating from Pensacola Junior College and then FSU with a BS in Business Administration. Notably, while at Pensacola Junior College, Mr. Aynes succeeded in petitioning the school to develop a night school program so that he and other students could hold down full-time jobs during the day. Today, PJC's night school enrollment exceeds 20,000 students. Also during this time period, Mr. Aynes served two years in the USAF as an electronics specialist. Mr. Aynes then moved to Atlanta and attended Emory School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor in 1959. While studying law at Emory, during the evenings, he worked at several insurance companies as a claims adjustor - rising to Branch Claims Manager before going into private law practice in 1959. He bartered with family members for the funds to purchase his treasured class ring, promising them all free legal services if ever they should have a need. Mr. Aynes handled his first Social Security Disability case in 1962. SSD/SSI law became the primary focus of his Atlanta law practice, which spanned over 45 years. Continuing to work at home up until the day he passed, Mr. Aynes quoted a friend "...I have no hobbies - if I retired, I'd be dead in six months, so I just keep on keeping on."

Survivors include his four children and their families, daughters and sons-in-law, Lincy and Dana Norman, Merrilee and Fred Gober, Lisa and Allen McDuffie and son, David William Aynes and his fianc, Erin, along with seven grandchildren all of Atlanta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eula and Johnny Gallimore, and Opal and Ed Graham of Pensacola, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Aynes was most proud that all four of his children are college graduates as he was also the first person ever in his own family to obtain a college degree.
