Susan daughter of John Eddy and Eliza (McKelvey) Allen

The Ionia Sentinel, Thursday, August 15, 1918

The funeral for Mrs. M. J. Allen was held from the late residence on West Main street, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

The pall bearers were: Amasa Morrison, John E. Morrison, Robert Patrick, Elmer Cowan, Edward Cowan, and John McKendry. Interment was in Balcom Cemetery, in Berlin township.

Rev. R. J. Slee read the following obituary, on which he enlarged by more personal remarks, in which he paid a high tribute to the life of Mrs. Allen.

Mrs. M. J. Allen passed away at the home on West Main street on Monday, August 12th, at 5:30 p.m. She was the daughter of John E. and Eliza Morrison, who departed this life in 1880 and 1884, respectively. The parents were among the first settlers of Ionia county.

Mrs. Allen was born in South Ionia, and was united in marriage to M. J. Allen on October 15, 1871, and began housekeeping on their farm west of Palo, in Ronald township, soon after their marriage. She was a consistent member of the M.E. church for the past twenty years, uniting at first with the Palo church, and later with the church in this city.

Deceased is survived by her husband, one brother, one sister, and several nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Allen was a woman of strong character—a womanly woman, devoted to her home, and was greatly loved by all who knew her.
