Raymond O. Kortbein, age 77, of Omro, died peacefully at Aurora Medical Center, Friday afternoon, September 05, 2008. Ray was born May 11, 1931 in Birnamwood, WI the son of Otto and Isabel (Meverden) Kortbein. He had a very strong work ethic which started at the age of 12. He was always a hard worker and worked at Universal Foundry, Johnny Ray's Garage and Oshkosh Truck, where he finally retired. One of Ray's greatest loves in life was his wife; Gloria. He had a life long passion of country music, which was evidenced by the large collection he owned. His dog, Cinnamon, held a special place in his heart. Ray enjoyed spending time outdoors tending his garden and flowers and feeding his squirrels and birds. He would also enjoy and savor a cold beer. Family was important to Ray and he always looked forward to a good conversation with them. Above all else, Ray was a strong, yet passionate man who took deep pride in caring for others.

Ray is survived by his children, Darrel (Dawn) Kortbein of Oshkosh, Sharon (Stuart) Greenebaum of Hartland, WI, Doug (Peggy) Kortbein of Appleton, Vicki (Dick) Rousar of Oshkosh, Denise (Guy) Nau of Oshkosh, Don Magnuson (Cheryl) of Redondo Beach, California, Brian (Becky) Kortbein of Oshkosh, Laurie (Scott) Bahr of Oshkosh, Raymond (Sherri) Kortbein of Woodruff, WI, Debbie Basting of Oshkosh, Steven Ochowicz of Oshkosh, Carla Matulle (Greg Hempel) of Oshkosh; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Gary (Chris) Matsche, and Tom (Gale) Matsche; sisters, Joann (Kenneth) Neyhard and Gail Peters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Gloria on January 11, 2008, his parents; daughter, Wanda Janik; sister, June Kallin ; brothers, Jim and Wayne.
