Herman Boden was born December 25, 1866, in Woodford County, Illinois. There he received Christian baptism. At the age of 11 years in 1877, he came with his parents to Nebraska, locating on a farm 4 miles west of Crete, where he lived until his death. He was confirmed in the West Blue Evangelical church, March 24, 1889. On July 2, 1903, he was married to Mary Wenz. To this union two children were born, Johannah, who survives him and a son, who died in infancy. His wife died April 19, 1905.
On the 23rd of October 1907 he was married to Adelena Matilda Weidner in the German Congregational church, Crete by the Rev. H. Stahmer. To this union four children were born who survive him.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Boden celebrated their silver wedding anniversary October 23, 1932. Mr. Boden was a loving husband, a good father, and a faithful Christian. For the last two years, his health had been failing, being ill with pernicious anemia, which became more serious last fall. He passed away quietly last Saturday, February 11, at 7:30 a.m.
He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife; five children, Johannah, now Mrs. Rudolph Manske of Lincoln; Dorothy, Edith, Henry, and Carl of Crete; one brother, Henry of Crete; one sister, Mrs. John Meier of Crete, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Tena Boden of Ramah, Colorado, and a host of friends. In the passing of Herman Boden, this community loses another pioneer of this vicinity.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 14, 1933, at the home at 1:00 o'clock, and at the German Congregational church at 1:45. Burial was made at West Blue cemetery. Rev. J.E. Schatz officiated assisted by Rev. O. Pinckert of West Blue Evangelical church.
