NEW ALBANY MAN TAKEN BY DEATH WHILE AT TAMPA. Pneumonia Fatal To Herman Borgerding Kin Here Learns. BODY TO ARRIVE FRIDAY. Herman Borgerding, 65 years old, well-known retired business man of New Albany, died at 3 o'clock Thursday morning at Tampa, Fla., following an illness of pneumonia, according to word received by his son-in-law, C. Spence Hegewald. Mr. Borgerding, who had been suffering from heart trouble for five years, went to Florida two months ago. He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Belle Borgerding; his daughter, Mrs. C. Spence Hegewald; his son, C. Melvin Borgerding; a niece, Miss Celestine Barron, Corydon, Ind., and Floyd Penn of this city. They were at his bedside when he died. Dr. J. E. Bird of this city attended the patient. Mr. Borgerding's condition became alarming Wednesday. A pioneer in the automobile business in New Albany, Mr. Borgerding for many years conducted the Borgerding Motor Car Company, East Fifth and Spring streets. He retired from business when his health became impaired. At one time he operated a grocery and feed store on the Corydon Pike. Mr. Borgerding was a native of New Albany and always lived here. Surviving him, besides his widow, son and daughter, are two sisters, Mrs. Lillie H. Bence and Mrs. William Bence, both of New Albany. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church and of New Albany Lodge of Elks. The body will arrive in the city at 9 o'clock Friday night and will be taken to the family residence at 1222 East Spring street. - New Albany Tribune March 19, 1931 p1 c1
