Francis, the Pioneer resident of Antigo, was born in Canton, Valais, Switzerland and emigrated to America in 1848. "He enlisted in Company E Sixth Wisconsin Volunteers,in 1861, served in the Iron Brigade under General Bragg, was wounded at Antietam, taken prisoner at Gettysburg, and received his honorable discharge in 1864." This information was found in the March 9, 1952 issue of the Wisconsin State Journal. The oldest of his children was Marie Teresa (Deleglise) Deresch. Her burial may be in this cemetery also.'G.A.R.'
