Obituary, "The Newberry Observer," Newberry, SC, p. 1: ROY BOWERS Died From Burns
Roy Cleveland Bowers, 32, died Saturday at the local hospital from burns he received earlier in the week. He was endeavoring to pour gasoline into the carburetor of his truck when the gasoline became ignited and before he could escape he was seriously burned. Besides his widow, Mrs. Laura Nichols Bowers, he is survived by three children, Donald Frederick, Tony Nichols, and Peggy Ann Bowers; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Hampton Bowers; three brothers, Harold M., Thomas Guy and Johnnie Bowers, Jr.; three sisters, Mrs. Maxey Hawkins, Mrs. William E. Long and Mrs. Carl Long. Funeral services were held at the Silverstreet Lutheran church at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon by the Rev. P. D. Risinger and the Rev. J. B. Harmon. Interment was in the church yard. Active pall-bearers were Evans Bowers, Alan Dominick, Henry Lominick, Sherwood Cannon, J. W. Longshore, G. K. Dominick, Elgie Sheppard and S. W. Brown. Honorary pall-bearers were H. O. Long, J. G. Long, George Rodelsperger, Guy Whitener, A. W. Marray, J. V. Havird, B. V. Chapman, Claude Lathrop, J. L. Koon, Pat Patterson, R. M. Lominick, and J. F. Havird.
