Preston Allen "Pap" Dean, Jr. A memorial service service for Preston Allen "Pap" dean Jr. will be held Saturday, september 10 at 11a.m. in the colfax United methodist church. Preston Allen "Pap" Dean Jr., 95, of colfax, a recent resident Kingsley Place in Alexandria, died on monday, August 15,2011,in Rapides regional medicalter after a brief illness. Mr Dean donated his body to the LSU Medical School in Shreveport. Mr.Dean was born on August 25, 1915 in colfax.After finishing Colfax High School he attended LSU,graduating in 1937.He continued his education at the chicago Academy of fine arts.a veteran of World War II,he retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a lieutenant Colonel. He was the editoral cartoonist for the Shreveport times,retiring in 1979.


Mr. Dean was one of the original inductees in the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame at Winnfield. he is also the author and illustrator of a number of books including Historic Natchitoches, Beauty of the Cane;Louisiana a Political history in cartoon and narrative; Central louisiana historical homesteads and the famailies who touched them; and Colfax; its Place in Louisiana.

His involvement in communtiy and Proessional organizations was extensive.He was a member of the colfax united mtethodist church, the American association of Editoral cartoonist, the Boy Scouts of America, River Oaks Square Arts Center, Grant Parish Arts Council, LSU Alumni Associaton, the American Legion , The Grant Lodge of Louisiana F. & A.M., and The 30th infantry old hickory division.


Preceding him in death were his parents, Preston A. Dean,Sr. and Addie Swafford Dean; his sister, Miriam Dean Nugent;his brother,Eddie Frank Dean;wives, Doris Moore Dean and Jimmie S. Dean;great grandson,collin sharpe Cameron and step son in law,David Smith.


Memorials may be sent in his honor to the Colfax united Methodist Church or to the Boy Scouts of America.
