George Carragan was born in Saratoga Springs in March 1844. He moved to Bayonne, became a grocer, and then a merchant with the H.Sheffin Drug company. He helped organize the Mechanics Trust Company and later the First National Bank. He was married to Margaret Vreeland, was active in the First Reformed Church, and died of septic poisoning on January 19, 1925, at his residence at 39 East 33rd Street, Bayonne, N.J.
