David Leroy Wisdom was the son of Laurence Leroy and Ethel Mae LaHue Wisdom. He was a twin and made the newspapers early when his mother and the twins were pictured with the caption "the biggest twins ever born at St. Anthony's Hospital". Dave weighed in at 7 pounds, 2 ounces and his brother at 8 pounds 4 ounces.

In 1951, Dave, his brother and his older sister, moved with their parents to Iola, Kansas. His youngest brother was born there. The family moved to Marysville, Kansas in 1954, and this is where the children spent most of their school years. The family moved once more in 1966 to Manhattan, Kansas where Dave graduated from high school in 1968.

Dave entered the Air Force and was stationed in Newfoundland and then at the NORAD Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station in Colorado Springs. When he left the Air Force, he remained in Colorado Springs, attending technical school in electronics.

He returned to Kansas and became a deputy sheriff in Onaga, Kansas where he met and married his wife on October 10, 1981. They had two sons.

Dave later went to work for Baldersons Caterpillar in Wamego, Kansas and worked there until 2010 when his health began to fail. Dave died unexpectedly at his home in Wamego.

Dave's ashes reached their final resting place in a columbarium niche at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery at Fort Riley, Kansas on October 3, 2016.
