Mrs. Phebe Russell, Widely Known Burlington Township Pioneer, Great Grandmother of Fourteen, Called To Reward.
Funeral rites for Mrs. William A. Russell, an estimable resident of this and Burlington community for nearly 82 years, who died Thursday morning at her home on South Locust street, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday from the Kebil Funeral Home, the Rev. C. H. Draper officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in Elmwood cemetery.
Native of New York
Phebe Marie Jones, the daughter of Nathan W. and Roletta Holman Ames, was born on January 3, 1857 in Orangeville, New York. In early girlhood she migrated to Burlington township.
On Christmas day , 1876 she was married to William A. Russell, the son of Jonas and Rebecca Esterbrook Russell at the Russell homestead in Burlington. Mr. Russell died on Dec. 20, 1932.
Two sons, Freeman A. of Charter Grove and Frank E., residing on the home farm In Burlington townImtp and one daughter, Mrs. Willam Barry, of Sycamore, survive. Nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren also are living.
Prominent Pioneer
Mrs . Russell was an active church attendant. Both in home circles and in society she was an energetic and worthy member. Although not in robust health during recent years, she was cheerful and exceedingly thoughtful of others. With the passing of Mrs. Russell one of the community's pioneers has been claimed. Agriculturists and their families, especially in the community where the Russell family resided until 1911, regret to hear of her death
