Born Edward Emery Daly on 24 Oct 1894 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts to James E Daly and Elizabeth J Cairns. His parents were both born in Ireland and married in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Edward Daly was ordained into priesthood on 24 Oct 1894. He was consecrated as Bishop of the Des Moines Diocese at St Ambrose Cathedral on 13 May 1948 in Des Moines IA.

The Most Reverend Edward Celestin Daly died at the Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome, Italy on 23 Nov 1964. Death was caused by a TWA airplane crash. At the time of his death he was attending the Ecumenical Council at the Vatican.
