Revolutionary Leader. He was the leader of the largest peasants revolt in Slovenia and Croatia.The uprising was in reaction to the cruelty of noble Franjo Tahy. But the underlying causes were the heavy taxation imposed due to the war with the Ottaman Empire. The peasnats were brually put down and the leaders executed. Matija was crowned with a red hot crown and then thrown to the dogs. This execution took place in St. Marks Square Zagreb, Croatia. His name is an inspiration to those who fight injustice. One of Tito's partisan units was named after him
