He was a British tennis player and chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (1921–1936). In 1887 he and Patrick Bowes-Lyon won the doubles in Wimbledon. J.P.Middlesex (1907); Barrister-at-Law, Inner Temple (1888), Stipendiary Magistrate, Bradford, 1908-14, Metropolitan Police Magistrate at Old Street, E.C., 1914-23, at Marylebone, 1923-25, and at Bow Street, W.C., 1925-26, Deputy Chairman of Quarter Sessions for County of London 1926; educated University College London, and Downing College Cambridge (B.A.).
