Cora is the first child of Benjamin Thornburg & Ora Ridpath Thornburg. She was born in Sedan, Kansas, in a dugout with plank windows. When Cora was 4 years old the Thornburgs left Kansas with her and went to Oklahoma in a covered wagon being drawn by oxen. There were no bridges; they were on ferry boats across rivers. Oklahoma was Indian Territory; it was common to see Indians with feather headgear and the women in their blankets. After a few years in Oklahoma the Thornburgs appeared on the Arkansas census of 1900. Benjamin Ausbury Thornburg is the founder of Thornburg, Arkansas.
