WIFE OF PUBLISHER DIES SUDDENLY

Mrs. Madge Forgey Hamlett, wife of Edward Hamlett, publisher of the Adair County News, was found dead in bed Monday morning [February 27] at the home of her sister, Mrs. Robert McCullough, in Ashland, Ky. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mrs. Hamlett had been called to Ashland to be with her daughter, Mrs. Bobbe Manley, who is seriously ill.

Mrs. Hamlett was the daughter of Col. B.F. Forgey, of Ashland, Ky., publisher of the Ashland Daily Independent, and Mrs. Forgey, are both ill in Florida and unable to attend the funeral.

In addition to her husband, parents, daughter and sister, she is survived by one brother, Chauncey E. Forgey, managing editor of the Ashland Daily Independent, and two grandchildren, William Manley and Betsey Norris Manley, of Ashland.

Mrs. Hamlett was a member of the Columbia Presbyterian Church and was active in its affairs and those of the community.

Funeral services are to be held this afternoon at 3:00 at the Steen Funeral Home, in Ashland, conducted by Rev. S.R. Curry, pastor of the Ashland Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery.

The entire community, stunned at the untimely passing of Mrs. Hamlett, extends sympathy to the bereaved husband, who also suffered the loss of his mother, Mrs. Daisy Hamlett, January 7, 1950.

Among those from Columbia attending the services in Ashland were: Mr. and Mrs. H.V. Appen, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Jeffries, John Shelley, Mrs. E.W. Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lewis.

Note: Hannah Madge Forgey Hamlett was first married to Erik Sidney Cogan, a native of South Africa; and that she was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Margaret Cogan, born 1923 & died 1927, and most likely by a son, born & died 1929. Bobbe, her daughter's full name was Alice Miriam Cogan Manley Wilson. She divorced William Dawson Manley and married Ernest Everett Wilson.

Hannah was daughter of Benjamin and Alice Eaton Forgey.
