Naomi Bortner Strong was born October 8, 1845, near Sheakleyville, Pa. In early life she became a member of the Baptist Church and later when coming west, placed her membership in the Baptist Church of Geneva, Neb., at which place she has since continued her membership.

She had five children, two boys and three girls, three of whom preceded her to the glory world many years ago. She leaves to mourn her death, one sister, Mrs. L. A. Newbold of Edmond, Kas., three brothers, H. J. Bortner of McCook, Neb., J. C. Bortner of Geneva, neb., and J. H. Bortner of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Mrs. M. C. Bennett of Salt Lake City, Utah and Mrs. John Roper, Terre Haute, Ind.; and one grandchild, little Helen Bennett of Salt Lake City, Utah.

For nearly two years she has made her home with her sister, Mrs. L. A. Newbold, who has most tenderly cared for her, seeing that every slightest wish has been granted, leaving absolutely nothing undone that might contribute to her comfort and happiness.

Although ill when she went to make her home with her sister, she made a number of true friends, who did much to cheer the long, lonely, painful hours of that last long illness.

Exactly two weeks before she died, she told her sister that “her time had come” and she was entirely reconciled to the going. To those who were not with her, it would be impossible to even imagine such suffering as that she endured during the last two months of her life, to say nothing of the preceding twenty months, which were nearly as bad.

As per her request, her body was shipped to Geneva, Neb., for interment, beside those of her father and mother.

The body arrived in Geneva at 11 o’clock Friday and interment took place at once in the Geneva Cemetery. Rev. W. L. Austin held a short service at the grave.
