Patrick McAleer was born at Drumnakilly, Termonmaguirk, Tyrone, Ireland, 17 Mar 1815, and immigrated with his family as a child to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. He removed to Boston about 1842, where he had a carpenter's shop on Province Street for many years, and acquired considerable wealth in real estate. He married Ellen Heavy of county Longford at St. Mary's parish, Boston, 8 Feb 1849; 10 children.
