Wilma grew up in Laurel, graduating from Laurel High School in 1928, and Morningside College in 1932. She was an elementary teacher until she enlisted in The United States Navy Waves during World War II, serving in the Norfolk, Va., area. Wilma married Elwin Clair Strong Aug. 17, 1946, at Morningside Presbyterian Church, Sioux City, Iowa. The couple lived in Baberton, Ohio, where Elwin was employed. They retired to Wichita, Kan., in 1974, where they lived until moving to Laurel, in 1994.Wilma was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Laurel; American Legion Auxiliary, Laurel; the Nebraska Society of Mayflower Descendents; and the Daughter's of the American Revolution Chapter, Norfolk. She was an avid sports fan even before television following sporting events on the radio. Wilma followed the Cleveland Indians and in Wichita enjoyed the Wichita State Shockers.
