Emily "Pat" Steele
May 27, 1928 - July 30, 2013

Emily Veleria (Pat) Steele, 85, of Conyers, Georgia, went to Heaven on July 30, 2013. She lived a long, full life and leaves a legacy of family and love. Born May 27, 1928, to Mary Etta (West) and Jesse Mercer Henry, in Lithonia, GA, she left school early, as did many children of the depression, and worked as a sales person and hairdresser. Pat and Edward Steele were married August 6, 1949, and happily raised their three children as they traveled with the Navy to California, Maryland, Panama, Charleston, SC, Virginia Beach, VA, and then retired to Conyers. Eddie passed away in May 1986. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Agnes Henry Hubert; brothers, Jack and Junior Henry; niece, Patricia Hubert Kendrick. Her fiancé, Danny Rice, passed away in 2007. Pat was a talented homemaker, loving mother, and loyal friend. She was "Mom" to her nieces and nephews, as well as her children's friends. Known for her beautiful white hair, crystal blue eyes, and bright smile, she was always dressed up and fun to be around. She especially loved going to the dances at the VFW, where she was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary. This is also where she rang in 38 consecutive New Years at the same table with dear friends. Celebrating her life are her children, Yvette Steele Foster and husband, Micheal, Michael Edward Steele and wife, Vicky, and Tracy Lawrence Steele and wife, Rhonda; and grandchildren, Kari Foster Cazalas, Lee Steele, Rick Steele, Shea Ross Bergen, Brandon Ross and their spouses. Known as Granny Grits to her great-grandchildren, Kate, Ethan, Emma, Jarrett, Madie, Wade, Brantley, Kayla, and Easton; beloved Aunt Emily to nieces, Deborah Hubert Chambless, Sharon Hubert Lipes, Gay Hubert Charles, Bonnie Hubert Ellison, Lynda Henry Davis, Dana Erskine Stapp, and Taye Erskine Pierce, and nephews, Doug Henry, Jerry Henry, and Eric Henry. Also sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Erskine) Gladue, Joyce Marlowe, and Ann Henry; brother-in-law, John Steele; and the families of Wayne Rice and Kathy Rice Parker. She will be greatly missed by her many close friends, and the family is very grateful for all their support. Although too many to name, special thanks is extended to her companions Wanda Board and Joe Parker; as well as Anne Skelton, Joyce Gattis, and Pat's faithful poodle, Penny. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8, Thursday, August 1. A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Friday, August 2, in the Chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Bairds Baptist Church Cemetery, Bairdstown, GA, at 2 o'clock. Memorial contributions may be made to Bairds Baptist Church (c/o Elaine Smith, 3077 Union Point Hwy, Union Point, GA, 30669), the Conyers VFW (1432 VFW Drive, Conyers, GA 30012), or the charity of your choice.
