Guss D. Hardin, 78, of Wilson Street died at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. Hardin retired from Golden Foundry in 1986 and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He served as a sergeant in the Army during World War II and the Korean War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal with four bronze loops, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one service star, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three service stars, United Nations Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel on 25th Street, with the Rev. Jerry Vandervort officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

Mr. Hardin was born in Boyd, Ky., Oct. 21, 1922, the son of James and Corrilla Webster Hardin. He married Patricia Jones June 26, 1949, at Columbus. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, Ronald F. Jones, Carl L., David T. and Roger Hardin, all of Columbus, and Jerry D. Hardin of Greensburg; daughters, Lynette M. Harris of Liberty, Ky., and Nancy Hardin and Susan Harris, both of Columbus; brothers, Warren, William, John, James, Richard, Benjamin and Todd Hardin, all of Columbus; sisters, Alice Allen, Margie Fields, Florence Hall and Virginia Atwood, all of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Boles and Lavanna Jackson; a brother, Russell Hardin; one son; and one grandson.

The funeral for Guss D. Hardin, 78, of Wilson Street was Friday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Vandervort officiating. Special remarks were given by Lynette Harris and Ronald Hardin.

Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military graveside rites were conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Pallbearers were Mike, Scott and Jeff Hardin, Robert Moore, Clay and Stevie Harris and Donald Smith. Honorary pallbearer was Becky Woods.

Mr. Hardin died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
