Uhling died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital at Cottonwood from complications of a stroke.
He was the son of Henry and Anna Forsmann Uhling, born June 30, 1916, at Cottonwood. He attended St. Joseph's School at Cottonwood and Ferdinand High School.
He married Viola G. Frederick May 16, 1936, at Ferdinand. The couple made their home at Ferdinand, where he worked for Herzog Grocery and later for Lewiston Grain Growers.
He purchased the service station at Ferdinand and operated it until 1991. He also drove a school bus for 20 years and had a mail route for 22 years. He also was involved with various trucking enterprises in the area for many years.
He was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church at Ferdinand and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife at the couple's Ferdinand home; two sons, Farrel (Bud) Uhling and Lee Uhling, both of Cottonwood; a daughter, Carol Schaeffer of Ferdinand; a sister, Mary Zodrow of Wenatchee; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, George and Raymond Uhling; and two sisters, Elizabeth Beard and Anna Kaufman.
