DEAN WARREN HURST - 09/21/1930 - 02/25/2009
Dean was called to be with the Lord at the age of 78, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He was born in Sutton, Nebraska to Bert and Effie (Troedson) Hurst. He grew up in Ceres and Turlock, CA. Dean served in the Army during the Korean War in 1951 and 1952. He attended College in the State of Washington where he met and later married Lorraine Olson in 1955. They have been residents of San Diego for 53 years. He was a teacher in San Diego City Schools for 24 years. Dean is survived by his wife, Lorrie; daughters Carla (Mark) Schwartzel, and Lynn and Kyja Hurst; his grandsons, Jason (Joanna), Ryan, Brandon and Kevin Schwartzel; great-grand-kids, Daniel, Quinn, Emily and Cayden Schwartzel all from San Diego. His two sisters Maxine and Virginia preceded him in death. Dean is also survived by nephews, Greg and Barry Patrick and Jeff Ferguson; nieces, Kathy Bennett and Becky Seitz, along with many wonderful friends. Graveside service on Friday, March 6th, at Greenwood Memorial Park at 2 p.m. and a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 7th, at 11 a.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, 7250 Eckstrom Ave., San Diego 92111. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations may be made to the Dean Hurst Memorial Fund at Atonement Lutheran Church.
