Ernest emigrated to Allegheny City, Allegheny, PA as a young boy in 1850 with his siblings and parents. In 1870 he was living in Allegheny City with his widowed mother. He married Ann Marie "Mary" Sepp Apr 7 1875 in Beaver Falls, Beaver, PA. In 1880 he was listed in the Census as an axe temperer and was living next to his brother William Marx. In 1900 he was a farmer in Chippawa, Beaver, PA.
