Charles Jones was born the day the Statue of Liberty was presented to the USA from France. He was named after the sculptor of Lady Liberty, Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi.

My grandfather was a fascinating man. Had a fourth grade education and lived in poor conditions, and was the oldest of seven children. His parents were immigrants from France and Germany. My grandfather had determination and worked hard. He became Professor Emeritus for Pratt Institute, NYC. Charles was a metallurgist and was sent overseas during WWII.

**Just today 8/11/07 I learned a very interesting fact about my Grandfather. He had tickets to board the Titanic when it arrived in New York. Unfortunately, the Titanic sank before it arrived. He had the original this day we don't know who has the tickets or where they are.***

Dear Grandpa, This is just what Lady Liberty stands for, work hard, live free, don't expect handouts, and make it in life Only in America!

I can still hear you singing Frankie Fontaine songs. You had the most beautiful voice. I remember how much you loved the Jackie Gleason show. I was only thirteen when you passed on, but remember you vividly as if it were yesterday! Rest in Peace, my dear Grandpa.
Love, Keren
