The son of english immigrants, Enoch & Eliza Mapstone Veal. Married Mary Cody and had one daughter, Alice. Mary passed away in 1903 due to injuries suffered in a fall. In March October 6,1906 he married Ida Alvina Berlick. Relocated to Fondu Lac, Wisconsin. In 1912, daughter Ruth was born and in 1913, a son, Raymond was born. Eventually relocated to Mattoon, Illinois and later to Seymour, Indiana. In 1953, Ida passed away and Arthur lived the remainder of his life in Seymour, except for a brief stay at an assisted care facility in near-by Bedford, Indiana.
