His mother and father, James and Jean (Adair) Faries were born in Ireland. Richard was the father of 9 children.

Obituary written by W.B. Edwards — "Died of dropsy, July 30th, 1855 at his residence, 12 miles northeast of Florence, Al. Rev. Richard Faires was in the 84th year of his life. Brother Faires was a native of S. C.; professed religion in 1803, & thereafter joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, by which he was licensed to exhort in 1809, to preach in 1819, & in 1823 he was ordained a deacon. A more devoted man to the church & religious obligations I have rarely seen. For more than a century his law has been inflexible in reference to his attendance at church, as well as reading the Holy Scriptures, with family prayer night & morning; his Christian walk was a immense value to the younger believers in Christ."
(Thanks to Lillie Stockard of Lauderdale County, Ala. For this Obit.)
