Jeane Lowe Harten, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 24, 2011 at Lincoln Court Retirement Community. She was under the care of One Source Hospice.

Jeane was born May 3, 1922 in Banida, Franklin County, Idaho, to Scott Doney Lowe and Nellie Webb Lowe. She attended Banida Elementary, Tyhee Elementary, and graduated from Pocatello High School. She attended Idaho State College before joining the U.S. Navy and serving as one of only twelve USN Free Aerial Gunnery Instructors during World War II.

She married William "Bill" Harten on March 21, 1945 in Deland, Florida. Their marriage was solemnized September 8, 1950, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Bill preceded her in death on June 30, 2004.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a teacher and musician in all of the church auxiliaries. She was instrumental in creating Idaho Falls' first genealogy library. Jeane was a professional musician, with piano, organ, and merimba being her specialties. She enjoyed arranging music, performing as a soloist, doing art work, family history, gardening, and being in nature.

Survivors include her daughter, Valerie (Doyle) Briggs of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, William Scott (Janice) Harten of Woods Cross, Utah; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Nellie Lowe; husband, Bill; brother, Ray (Nikki) Lowe; and sister, Merle (George) Haroldsen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the LDS Chapel located at 885 S. Boulevard, with Bishop Doug Hillman of the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to services.

Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, south section, 1520 S. Fifth in Pocatello. Veterans rites will be performed by the Pocatello Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard with grandson, Jacob John Berube playing "Taps".
