Son of Charles La Barbera.

Samuel served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Mt. Morris, Livingston County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 18, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted as being employed in Packing, filling, labeling, marking, and bottling and also as Married.

He was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Mount Morris Enterprise - Dec 20, 1944

A memorial mass was held at the Assumption Church Monday morning for PFC Samuel A. LaBarbera, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles LaBarbera, Murray Street, who was killed in action on Leyte, on Nov 18. The mass was celebrated by the Rev. Cominic Grasso, priest of the Assumption Church.

According to the War Department Telegram received by his wife, the former Rena Hamer, now residing at Nunda, PFC LaBarbera was a member of the US Infantry Division that fought so gallantly in the Philippine Islands where he lost his life in teh Battle of Leyte. LaBarbera was united in marriage to Miss Hamer at Perry on June 3, 1940.

Entering the armed forces on Dec 28, 1942, PFC LaBarbera received his basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama, and was sent direct to the west coast and on May 5, 1943 left for overseas duty. He was engaged in Australia, New Guinea, Dutch East Indies and the Philippine Islands. He was never granted a furlough to return to his home after entering the service.

Before entering the armed forces he was employed at the Birds Eye-Snider Division of General Foods Corporation at the Mt Morris plant.

Besides his wife he lieave his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
