Charles Edwin "Jiggs" Skidmore, 81, of Rushsylvania, passed away at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, in Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.

He was born in Bellefontaine on May 5, 1930, to the late Wallace J. and Ruth Herd Skidmore. He also was preceded in death by a son, Randy Skidmore; brother, Bill Skidmore; and two sisters, Hannah Corwin and Cora Lowery.

On Jan. 17, 1954, he married the former Jeanette Ross and she survives, along with a son, Chuck (Judy) Skidmore of Rushsylvania; daughter, Beverly (Gary) Young of Zanesfield; daughter-in-law, Jackie Skidmore of Bellefontaine; seven grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Skidmore, Jocelyn Wreede, Jill Dodds, Belinda McLean, Ryan and Abby Young and Jimmy Skidmore; seven great-grandchildren, Gavin Wreede, Lily Dodds, Katie and Kristen McLean, Makayla and Jared Young and Isaiah Clarke; three sisters, Lydia G. O'Haran of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Judy Bell of Sidney and Emma (Arven) Spence of Rushsylvania; one sister-in-law, Doris Thaxton of West Liberty; and his dogs, Mamie and Trapper John.

He was an auto mechanic for many years, working for Gillespie Buick and Houchin Garage.

A member of the Belle Center Church of Christ, he also was a member of the Rushsylvania Lions Club, where he was the Tail Twister, and the Willard Stout American Legion Post in Belle Center.

He served on the Rushsylvania Village Council for several years and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was Santa Claus for many years in Logan and Hardin counties.

Pastors David Hawthorne and Mark Bishop conduct a funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rushsylvania Church of Christ, where visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial is in the Belle Center Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made the Rushsylvania Lions Club or Lima Memorial Health System Palliative Care, 1001 Bellefontaine Ave., Lima 45804.

Arrangements were handled by Price Funeral Home, Kenton.
