Phil was born August 17, 1931 - died June 10, 2011.

While the two dates above are important, this story is about the dash between these two dates. Born in Los Angeles, after a difficult childhood, he enlisted in the army and served our country during the Korean war and was honorably discharged. Growing up a sports fan of the local team, he was able to realize one of his dreams of owning season floor seat tickets for the Lakers. Phil was a huge UCLA Bruin fan, and got his degree from the school in business.

It was during this time he met and married his first wife of 49 years Marlene Schweger. Together they had a passion for life, traveling all over the world to 47 countries. Phil never met a stranger and loved new adventures. Phil developed the skills of a salesman that took him to the top of Forest Plywood sales located in two locations in the LA area. There he "routed the trucks" for 38 years before successfully selling the company and retiring to the Phoenix Arizona area in 1995. During his retirement, he enjoyed hobbies such as travel, reading, cooking, wood carving, bocce ball and parading around in his golf cart during all of the major holidays.

In 2002, he became caregiver to Marlene after she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. For three years he lovingly tended to her needs as she slowly deteriorated to her death in 2004. Working on a remodeling project in Marfa, Texas, he met the new love of his life, Sondra DeZombrano. They married in February of 2006 and settled in Alpine, Texas. There Phil enjoyed the last years in life at a much slower pace. He enjoyed living in a town where everyone new your name.

The dash represents a man's life who lived life to its fullest and loved people. To know Phil was to have a lifelong friend.

Phil is survived by his wife Sondra, his daughter Laura Carnes, son in law Mike Carnes, Grandchildren Leanna and Rainy, son David, and his children Maggie, Jenna, and Cliff.

Phil, we will all miss you and appreciate how you demonstrated how to live life to its fullest.

Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.
