CANAL BUILDER'S DESCENDANT DIES
Word has been received here of the death in California of Mrs. William Judson Smith, nee Laura Geddes, 65, formerly of West Genesee Street, this morning. Mrs. Smith was the granddaughter of James Geddes, builder of the Erie Canal, and the daughter of George Geddes, one of the founders of the Syracuse State Fair.
She was a graduate of the Keble School, and was active in women's work in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she was a member.
Surviving her are a son, William Brown Smith, of Los Angeles, Cal., and a grandson, Judson Smith.
