Chaarles Borup age 74, for many years well known by people of this community passed away at his home in Lindstrom at 7:15 pm, Sunday, January 30. He had suffered from a lengthy illness.

Mr. Borup was born in the town of Sterling, Polk County, Wisc. on July 15, 1880 [sic - WI birth record below], the son of Matilda and John Borup. He attended the Orr school and was baptized and confirmed at the Laketown Lutheran Church. In 1901 he came to Lindstrom and was married to Miss Hilma Larson, April 23, 1902.

For many years he worked as a potato buyer and later, in partnership with his brother, operated the local livery. He also had an interest in the local theater for a time. About 1924 he left Lindstrom to follow heavy construction work throughout the United States. During World War II he spent 2 years in Greenland on government construction.

In 1947 he returned to Lindstrom where he has since resided.

For the past seven years he has been custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of Hiram Lodge A. F.& A. M. No 287 and Lakeview Chapter, OES No 281. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Hilma, one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Reicherd, Lancaster, NY, 2 sisters Mrs. Mary Swanson, Minneapolis and Mrs. Louise Sather. Great Falls, Mont; 4 brothers,William and Albert of Duluth,, Christian of Balsam Lake, WI and Olaf of Siren, WI, Two other sisters have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held, Wednesday, February 2 at 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church of which he was member. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery with Rev Marvin Moll officiating.A Masonic commitment service was held at the graveside. Pallbearers were: Arvid T. Victor, Floyd Andrews, Ferdie Benson, Kermit Carlson, Albin Larson and Evan Shogren. Soloists were Velma Sundberg and Glen Peterson.

The passing of Mr. Borup takes away from Lindstrom and community one of the citizens who came here at the turn of the century. He knew well of the history of this community,its people and its environment. The community was always dear to his heart, the love of which brought him back here to spend his last days in retirement.
