Funeral Services for Willard Dee "Bud" Shirley, age 82, of Early will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 17, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Mize, pastor of the Salt Creek Baptist Church officiating assisted by John Penalver. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Oakview Cemetery in Mullin. Mr. Shirley died at noon Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Brownwood Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born July 24, 1926, in Alabama, the son of Thomas Grant and Gertha Getts Shirley. He grew up in Alabama and later lived in Houston where he was in the floor covering business. He served in the Seabees with the U. S. Navy in World War II. He was married to Annie Marie Pafford in Early on April 10, 1982. He had lived in Early for the past 30 years and was the former owner of Brownwood Mobile Homes. He was a member of the Salt Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Annie Pafford Shirley of Early; son, Jerry Dee Shirley of Houston; two step-sons, Ricky Womack of Goldthwaite and Randy Womack of Early; step-daughter, Tina Harris of Early; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Herman Shirley of Huntsville, Texas, Edward Shirley of Alabama, and Mac Shirley of Crosly, Texas; three sisters, Mildred Teague of Houston, Rozelle Cowart of Houston, and Brunell Hester of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Shirley; two sisters, Mayebelle Evelyn Tolbert and Ruth Walker; and two brothers, Carvin Shirley and L. B. Shirley.
