Mr. and Mrs. James Flynn of Piffard, RD were notified last week by telegram that their son, Sergeant Raymond C. Flynn, 24, flight engineer in the United States Army Air Forces, died in Newfoundland, Wednesday, November 24. He had been stationed at Presque Isle Army Air Base, Presque Isle, Maine. Later in the week word was received stating his death occurred from a plane crash while on a routine flight.
Sergeant Flynn attended York Central School from which he was graduated in 1937. During his high school career he participated in both baseball and basketball. He was a pitcher on the York Central team during the championship year 1937 when the team won the Livingston County "B" League Pennant.
Prior to his enlistment in the Air Forces in January 1942, Sergeant Flynn was employed at the Buick garage in Hornell. He was graduated from New England Aircraft School in Boston in June 1942.
Besides his parents he leaves two brothers, Ralph and George of Piffard, and a sister, Mrs. Emmett Hawkins of Greigsville.
