George W Fort was the son of Jesse L Fort and Martha McChesney. He first came to Hamburg in 1880 and at that time was a traveling salesman. He married Ada M Waltz on 27 Mar 1882. They lived in Red Oak, Iowa, for a short period of time, and returned to Hamburg. George clerked in several stores in Hamburg, and later was a painter and paper hanger.
George was always interested in music and was connected with several bands in Hamburg.
George and Ada had three children: Winifred, Wilbur, and Charles.
Ada died in 1909 at the age of 48. George had recently been diagnosed with cancer, but his death was caused by a stroke. He died at the age of 68 years.
