Rev. Cefus P. Benner, Jr., 76, left this earthly home for his new Heavenly home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.

Cefus was born on April 22, 1935, in Gatesville, Texas to Cefus P. Benner, Sr. and Josie (Featherston) Benner. He grew up in Gatesville and attended school there. On June 26, 1959 he married the love of his life, Barbara Savage, and they made their home in Ennis. Cefus served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Cefus was ordained to the Gospel Ministry on June 20, 1976 and had served as pastor of several area churches including Baptist Missionary Association churches in Malakoff and Corsicana. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Garrett Baptist Church.

He is survived by his five children: Sally and her husband, Rick Porter of Hillsboro, Lisa and her husband, Tony Sinclair of Ennis, C.P. Benner III and his wife, Dianna of Vilonia, AR, Mary Beth Emrick of Caryville, FL and Peggy and her husband, Buddy Hagler of Ozark, AL; eight grandchildren: Ian and Sean Benner, Whit and Tyler Tanner, Heather and Allison Sinclair and Alecia and Spenser Kerr; two brothers: Harold Benner and Bobby Benner, both of Ennis; sisters: Melba Scott of Holly Lake Ranch, TX, Jo Marie Benner of Ennis and Sharla Lauderdale of Dothan, AL, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara Faye Benner on March 21, 1999, and three sisters: Barbara Colston, Darla Lively and Carol Sue Benner and two sons-in-law: Lewis "Bubba" Tanner and Larry Kerr.

Visitation will take place on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. A Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Irvan Anthony officiating. Interment will follow at Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

The family requests that memorials be made in Cefus' name to the Texas Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 309, Waxahachie, Texas 75168.
