Philip F. Franks, age 81, died on Friday, April 19, 2002 at a Madison nursing home. He was born on July 9, 1921 in Sun Prairie and was the son of Frederick and Elizabeth (Hron) Franks. Philip was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Sun Prairie American Legion and V.F.W. He worked for Brooks Tractor for 29 years as a mechanic and from 1977 until 1986 at the Wisconsin Porcelain Co. also as a mechanic. He is survived by seven children, Rich (Ardith) of Watertown, Gary of Watertown, James (Diane) of Lake Mills, Michael (Carol) of Middleton, Tracy of Madison, Jody of Madison and Phyllis (Jeff) Lowe of Sparta; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Eleanor) of Beaver Dam; four sisters, Bernadine (William) Thiel of White Pines, Bertha Duessler of Princeton, Mary Ann Helbing of Watertown and Betty (Everett) Wolf of Antigo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas; a sister, Margaret Guetzlaff, and a brother, Florian. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens where the Sun Prairie V.F.W. and American Legion will conduct military services. A visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of services at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 23, 2002. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of your choice. WSJ 4/21/2002
