He was a retired Information Systems director for Lancaster Colony and a retired farmer. He was a member of Chester Lodge 238 F&AM, Chesterville; Evelyn Chapter 146, OES; and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended Centerburg Church of Christ.
Preceded in death by parents, Carl and Marie Compton.
Survived by brother, Jerry (Judy) Compton of Centerburg; nephews, Paul (Candy) Compton, Ray Compton and Allen Compton, all of Mount Vernon.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, 49 W. Church St., Centerburg, where service will be Wednesday, March 23, at 11 a.m. Roger Crego, minister, will officiate. Interment in Eastview Cemetery. Masonic Service will be Tuesday at 8 p.m.
