Scientist. A leading biologist and author, he was educated at Oxford University, and served as director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. He also wrote several scientific works. He was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium in London, England on February 18, 1975, and his ashes were later removed by the funeral director.
