Gravesite Details The Ashworth Family Cemetery (aka: Old Pioneer Cemetery) is about 2 miles down the road from Sherill's Inn. It sits on the knoll of a small hill in the valley. There is only one legible stone and a small statue. All the rest are field stones.

Sadly Molly Brown, who posted the 2nd picture (which is a picture of another cemetery), has passed away and I have yet to discover how to remove it.

James McBrayer Will
In the name of God amen I James McBrayer of the State of North Carolina, being in sound mind and memory blessed be God do this 24th June 1839 make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form to wit. 1st as to what worldy good it has pleased God to give me, I give and bequeath the manner following after paying all my just debts.

2nd I give to my beloved wife the plantation whereon I now live, during her lifetime or widowhood, also Mingo and Lell during said her lifetime, also what she chooses to keep as she deems necessary for her own use of stock: also plow shoes and farming utensils; also beds and furniture; I will that after my wife Polly has selected what she thiks necessary the rest to be sold and equally be divided amongst my children to wit: William S, Jane Shriva, James M, Mill, T Adolphus, Martha, Andrew H. I will that Betsy's children: Mary Ann, James R, Milly, Thomas and Martha. I have Betsy's their mother share equally divided amongst them.

3rd I will that after the death of my wife my land be divided as follows. James M to have one hundred acres on the two fifty tract on the dyeleaf. Adolphus to have lower end as far as he lower meadow inclusive thence down the water communication to the creek: thence up the creek to the Merrill branch to the south Andrew Hervey the balance of the land.

I will that after the death of my wife all my other property, one negro Mingo be sol and divided between Wm. S, James M. Adolphus, Andrew H my sons that Lell be sole and divided between Jane Almira Milly M T, Martha E, Betsy's heirs or children have her part.
4th I also appoint Josian Burgin and James Madison & Adolphus this my last will and testament. In witness where of I have set my hand and seal the day and year above written, signed, sealed in the presence of us (by the testator, James McBrayer) who were present at the signing or acknowledging and sealing hereof.
